Set inside the abandoned Church of St. Nicholas (Aziz Nikolaos Kilisesi) in Güllübahçe, Turkey, this work reimagines the historic structure through digital intervention.

Digitally sculpted flora and a central tree rise within the crumbling nave, weaving nature into the building’s layered history of cultural and religious transformation.

Within a historic villa in Beirut, built between 1890 and 1920, this artwork transforms architectural remnants into a flourishing garden.

Sunlight pours through a partially collapsed roof, illuminating traces of Parisian influence, Baghdadi painted ceilings, ornate mouldings, arched columns, and timeworn walls.

Wild blooms and ferns reclaim the space, where Lebanon’s architectural heritage merges with the quiet resilience of nature.

The artists meticulously digitally sculpt the flowers, grasses, and plants, integrating them into the original image of the building, which they research, explore, and photograph.

In the artwork, layered histories resurface through the quiet encroachment of nature, where time, architecture, and memory converge in a single vision of transformation, held in an infinite loop of growth and decay.

Along the rocky shore of Worli in Mumbai, a pale blue shrine rises at the edge of the Arabian Sea. Built in 1908 by a mariner shaped by those same waters, it stands where the land yields to the tide, its dome and arches breathing with the sea’s slow rhythm.

Within it, soft blue flowers unfold like echoes of the ocean, symbols of maternal grace and quiet renewal, their forms drifting between solidity and surrender.

Framed by the shifting skyline of Mumbai, the shrine becomes a threshold between nature and architecture, the real and the imagined; a moment of stillness held within an ever-changing city.

I was honored to exhibit and attend the 2025 @mash_india MASH Ball in support of @unicefindia, hosted by philanthropist and arts patron @shalini.passi

Artworks from 'The Wild Within' by @ryan.koopmans & @alice.wexell were showcased on large LED displays, set against the backdrop of a wonderful gala for a meaningful cause, and among an inspiring group of people.

New pieces from the series will debut at @leilahellergallery in Dubai, opening November 11, 2025.

Grateful for the experience, and looking forward to creating new artwork in the incredible country of India.

The Enchanted Hour (2023) — Ryan Koopmans & Alice Wexell

We are delighted to announce that 'The Enchanted Hour' has been acquired by FC Francisco Carolinum Linz Museum in Linz, Austria.

This time-synced digital artwork is set within a 17th-century abandoned villa in northern Italy, created through a fusion of original photography and 3D modelling.

Reimagining the traditional cuckoo clock, an owl emerges each hour, flying through the room and hooting to mark the passage of time.

The environment transitions between day and night at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., synchronized to the viewer’s location. Developed with dynamic coding by @transient_labs

The work exemplifies the creative potential of dynamic digital art, merging echoes of the distant past with the possibilities of the technological future.

'The Enchanted Hour' is a dynamic artwork that merges reality and imagination, centered around the concept of time - a modern twist on the traditional cuckoo clock.

The artwork is 'alive' and dynamic in the sense that every hour, an owl emerges from the painting, soaring through the room and hooting to mark the time.

Every day, at both 7am and 7pm, the artwork transitions between day and night, synchronizing with the viewer’s location.

This piece originates from images captured during @alice.wexell and my explorations of a 400-year-old abandoned villa in Northern Italy. The dynamic coding was done with @transient_labs

'Beyond the Veil' is a 1 of 1 digital artwork inscribed on the blockchain from the project 'The Wild Within', a series that brings new life into abandoned buildings from a bygone era.

It was auctioned and collected earlier in the year.

The artwork automatically transitions between day and night modes at 7 am and 7 pm CEST, synchronized with an on-chain clock, reflecting the time zone of the abandoned buildings location, photographed in Southern Poland.

Based on a real-world physical space, a rebirth into the digital realm is created by combining photography with three-dimensional techniques.

The results are a collision between the past and future, natural and manmade, physical and digital, and the real and imaginary.

The background of the building pictured is fascinating.

Nestled atop a forested hill in Tuscany lies an abandoned villa with a dark history.

The crackling of broken glass underfoot echoes through the pitch-black musky hallway as you journey deeper into the building's eerie depths.

As you shine your headlamp on the walls, disturbing drawings made by former patients come into view. The childlike sketches depict figures and animals armed with axes, guns, and saws.

A poem, written in pencil, is scrawled alongside the drawings, dated and signed "3 o'clock, September 10, 1968." The final ominous line reads, “And you'll be a blissfully happy fool for the rest of your life, crazy.”

This is Villa Sbertoli, a former a private mental health facility from the 1600s, a prison during World War II, and then a public psychiatric hospital throughout the early 20th century.

Its reputation is marred by the institute’s approach to psychiatric treatment which often involved brutal restraints and experiments. This ultimately led to the hospital's closure and abandonment in the late 1970s.

The building, grand and steeped in history, is in a state of ruin and decay.

@alice.wexell and I went here to photograph the building to capture its essence.

Its architectural significance combined with its complex psychiatric past makes it a prime subject for Tjo and us to unleash our creativity and create a one-of-a-kind collaboration.
